What is a vision board?
A vision board, also known as a dream board, is an inspiring collage of your dreams and desires. It is used as a powerful tool to visualize life goals and to help manifest them into reality.
There is no one way to create a vision board, as it is a personal exercise. The point is to sit down and dedicate some time to working out what you truly want out of life. And then, create a visual collage of how that beautiful future looks like.
Why should you create a vision board?
1. Vision boards help you decide what’s important to you.
When you create a vision board, you can’t add every single picture you find. This encourages you to make decisions and choose specific pictures that represent your vision the best. By doing this, you start to realise what is most important to you.
2. Vision boards make your dreams more real.
Many keep their dreams in their heads, swirling around. By creating a vision board, you get your dreams out of your head and into the world. It’s a way to make your dreams and desires visual, and in turn, awakening the senses and making them far more real.
3. Vision boards help keep you focused on your important goals.
Once your vision board is complete, put it somewhere you can see – either stuck up on a wall or even as a desktop background (like I have). By seeing it every day, you’re constantly reminded of your big dreams and what you’re working towards. Seeing this every day helps you keep on track and focused on the important goals that will help you manifest these dreams into a reality.
How do you create a vision board?>
There is no one way to make a vision board, so choose a method that works for you. Make it fun!
Decide what kind of vision board you want to create.
Some people create one vision board for their whole life. Others create different vision boards for different areas of their lives like career, relationships, family, or health.
There is no one way to create one, so think about what’s important for you right now.
You may want to get clear on your whole life, and in that sense, creating one general vision board could work for you. You’d then decide on what areas of your life you want to divide it into, and then choose 1 or more pictures for each.
Or, you may want to really put the focus on a particular area of your life right now, like your career. You could then create a visual collage of the different desires you have for this area of your life, and where you want to take it.
In the featured image in this blog post, I created a general vision board. This particular board contains a variety of areas in my life, with one image to symbolise my goal in that area within the next 2 years. The themes include: health, career, creativity, mind, relationships, reputation, social, synchronicity, travel and prosperity. These are themes I’ve been working on, and the exercise helped me clarify what my big goals are. The images chosen hold personal meaning to me, and this evokes a visual as well as an emotional feeling for me every time I see it. I have it set as my desktop background on my laptop and see it every day.
That said, a month from now I may choose to redo it. Or perhaps I may create a vision board with additional themes, or perhaps a new vision board for a certain area of my life. Vision boards are ongoing and free-flowing, so make them work for you.
Decide on how you want to put it together.
A vision board is essentially a collage of inspiring images that symbolize your dreams and desires. And so, you want to find images that really do the job.
Vision boards can be created in many ways. You can cut pictures out of magazines and stick them onto a board. Or you could find your pictures online, print them out, and then stick them up. You could even go completely digital, and create your vision board on the computer using a program like canvas, photoshop, or another online app. To create my vision board, I used the platform Dream it Alive to get me started – I then simply saved the screenshot and saved it as a desktop background.
There is no perfect way to create a vision board, so just do what feels right for you.
Look online for the many different ways you can create a vision board, and go for it – Make it easy and make it fun!
Dedicate time to create your vision board.
Once you know what kind of vision board you want to create, and how you want to put it together, set some time aside to do it.
Choose a day when you aren’t working and when you know you won’t be distracted.
This is important, as you want a nice chunk of time set aside so that you can really get into it. Creating a vision board is an important exercise, where you get to connect with yourself and your hopes and dreams of your future. This is a powerful tool that helps you find some clarity on what it is you truly want out of life. It’s a visual tool to help you solidify your life goals, and start moving towards making them a reality.
Create a space that inspires you.
Find a good space to do it in, where you feel comfortable and won’t be interrupted.
Get your tools ready, like your pile of magazines or laptop. Make sure you have everything you need so that you don’t break the flow once you get going.
Perhaps even get out some of your favourite music, and a scented candle or incense.
Create a space that is inspiring.
Start creating.
Now it’s time to start creating your vision board.
It can take a bit of time but it’s a lot of fun. You’re tapping into your dreams and desires and creating a visual storyboard of what they look like. Don’t be afraid to choose pictures that truly express your big dreams – be bold, be brave, and don’t sell yourself short.
Remember, it’s often our limiting beliefs that can hold us back from becoming all we can be. So, believe in yourself. Believe in your ability to create and live a life of abundance, filled with love, health, happiness and prosperity. The first step is believing!
Keep your vision board somewhere you can see.
When you’ve completed your vision board, put it somewhere you will see every day.
Stick it up on your wall or on the fridge. Or, save it as your desktop background. Or both! Wherever it is, make it visible so that you see it every day and are reminded of your vision for your future., and what you are working towards.
Seeing it should evoke a sense of excitement, and perhaps even some nerves at the thought of achieving your idea of success. And ultimately, it should inspire and motivate you to keep working towards your goals.
