Power Morning Lemon Turmeric Drink
Food is a powerful natural medicine for the body, and this is one of my favourite simple recipes to illustrate that. Introducing my Power Morning Lemon Turmeric Drink to kickstart your day with health and zing!
Why is this Morning Lemon Turmeric Drink so powerful?
This potent morning drink contains 5 simple ingredients – hot water, fresh lemon, turmeric powder, pepper, and coconut oil..
All 5 of these ingredients have healing benefits, and that’s why they’ve slowly made their way into this power drink.
Warm/Hot water
First thing in the morning, it’s a great idea to have water – cold, warm or hot.
It’s a wonderfully simple way to detox your body, flushing the system of accumulated toxins and promoting smooth digestion.
And even better, is to drink a mug of warm or even hot water. The warm/hot water helps to further loosen and get rid of these toxins in the body.
Ayurveda – a traditional system of medicine originating from ancient India thousands of years ago – promotes detoxifying the body regularly. Because, by getting rid of any buildup, you’re cleansing the digestive tract and restoring balance. And drinking warm/hot water in the morning is a great simple way to do that.
Fresh lemon
There are a few reasons you can benefit from adding fresh lemon to your mug of warm water.
Drinking lemon juice in warm water acts as a natural detoxifying agent, and this helps maintain digestive health. The lemon also helps maintain the pH balance of the body. And, lemon contains essential nutrients like vitamin C, as well as others like calcium, potassium and magnesium.
I was drinking warm water and lemon for a while, and over the years, I’ve slowly started adding more ingredients to the mix to boost the health benefits. Now it has turned into a pretty potent warm drink that I see as medicine rather than a ‘drink’.
Turmeric
I fell in love with Turmeric a few years ago.
Turmeric, with all the curcuminoids like Curcimun, that it contains, make it one of the most potent anti-inflammatory ingredients on the planet. Inflammation is one of the primary causes of almost all diseases, so having more anti-inflammatory foods is massive support for the body’s health.
This was partly why I wanted to include more Turmeric in my daily life.
I was also concerned about my brain health. I spend A LOT of time in front of the computer. And my family has a history of dementia. After my grandmother passed – mainly because of dementia – this concern of mine increased, and I really wanted to look for natural ways to support my brain health.
As mentioned above, inflammation within the body is a major cause of many diseases. And studies have shown that inflammation of the brain can be one of the causes leading to dementia. So, because Turmeric is such a fantastic anti-inflammatory agent, I decided to start adding a spoon of Turmeric powder to my morning lemon drink.
Black pepper
At around the same time, I was studying health coaching and I was learning all about Synergistic Food Combining – how nutrients interact to amplify their combined health benefits. Turmeric and pepper is a fantastic example of this. Because, by simply adding a sprinkle of black pepper to the turmeric, you ake the turmeric up to 2000% more absorbable!
And so, a sprinkle of black pepper was added to the drink.
Coconut oil
At the same time, I was looking into other natural ingredients that help support brain health, and coconut oil came up.
Coconut oil has been shown to have many health benefits.
Here Healthline explains nicely how it can support the brain:
Coconut oil is high in certain saturated fats. These fats have different effects in the body compared with most other dietary fats. The fatty acids in coconut oil can encourage your body to burn fat, and they provide quick energy to your body and brain.
Most dietary fats are categorized as long-chain triglycerides (LCTs), while coconut oil contains some medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), which are shorter fatty acid chains (2Trusted Source). When you eat MCTs, they tend to go straight to your liver. Your body uses them as a quick source of energy or turns them into ketones.
Ketones can have powerful benefits for your brain, and researchers are studying ketones as a treatment for epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, and other conditions.
Also, because turmeric is a fat-soluble spice, there are also some studies that suggest that the curcumin is absorbed easier if added to or taken with fats like ghee butter or coconut oil.
And so… I added a teaspoon of coconut oil to my morning drink.
Intense taste
Just to be upfront, this may sound or taste like a terrible mix of ingredients to some of you at first. But, over time you do actually get used to it. And as you start to appreciate the raw flavours and healing properties of these elements, you too can see this as a natural medicinal drink too!
That said, as always I encourage you to make any recipes your own. And if you want to experiment by adding additional ingredients to the mix to suit your taste buds, go right ahead. If you do, send me an email or a DM on Instagram, I’d love to know what you add.

Give your body a potent health boost first thing, it’ll thank you!
This is a powerful and super easy morning drink, with ingredients that boast many healing properties. That said, please note that the mix can taste pretty intense for some people. I've gotten used to it and love drinking it as a 'medicinal drink'. However, you could experiment by adding additional ingredients to suit your taste preferences
Add all ingredients to a mug of freshly boiled water. Stir well and enjoy!
Tip: While you drink it, keep a teaspoon handy. Before sipping on it, give it a little stir so that you get the full mix in each sip. Otherwise, you can end up having a buildup of ingredients sinking to the bottom of the mug.
Note: This is a powerful concoction, so it can taste pretty intense for some people. I've gotten used to it and love drinking it as a 'medicinal drink'. However, you could experiment by adding additional ingredients to suit your taste preferences
